Clark 203
Over winter break in December of 2021, I downloaded FL studio and began playing around with the software learning the basics of music creation and my new DAW. When I returned from winter break, I showed my suitemate, Aubrey, what I had been working on, and she said we should make an album. We did some pre-planning and landed on a goal of finishing nine songs before graduation in May. The album would later be named after the dorm we were living in at Pomona College.
Though I had worked on beats and melodies in the short time I had the DAW, I had not yet done recording and mixing. Over the course of producing these nine songs, I learned a number of skills that would inform my music and audio development experience. I think the album was unpolished upon release, but it was what we were able to do with the experience, tools, and timeframe we had been given, and I’m proud of us for making it. Though I’ve grown a lot since then, I still remember the experience of producing this album fondly.
